The condition of your skin is a crucial factor in achieving the perfect competition tan, and effective skin prep for competition tanning is essential for a successful outcome. To attain a smooth, even tan, focus on skin prep as a vital part of your competition preparation.
Begin your exfoliation for tanning routine 4 days before your base tan appointment to eliminate any dead skin cells by using an exfoliating glove and cloth. Remember to seek help for your back and other hard-to-reach areas.
Moisturizing your skin thoroughly after each exfoliation and every day leading up to the competition is key to nourishing your skin and keeping it hydrated.
For optimal results on competition day, follow these tanning tips: Waxing should be completed 48 hours before applying your base coat, while shaving is best done the day prior. As part of your skin prep for competition tanning, it’s advisable to apply a clear nail varnish to your fingernails and toenails to prevent the tan from staining them. Exfoliation for tanning should also be considered to ensure an even application.
Shower and do a final, light exfoliation for tanning before your base tan appointment, and rinse thoroughly. Ensure your skin is COMPLETELY PRODUCT FREE! DO NOT moisturise, use deodorant, perfume, or ANY products on your skin before your base tan, as these all act as a barrier and can negatively affect the outcome of your tan.
PLEASE NOTE: DEODORANT WILL TURN YOUR ARMPITS GREEN, so please make sure you aren't wearing any! Remove all jewellery prior to your tan.
FEMALES- you will be required to tan nude to avoid any tan lines. MALES- you will need to wear a g-string or sock for coverage - or, depending on your competition category, you can opt for briefs or boxers.
On competition day, wear long, loose, dark, and lightweight clothing to your appointment, and opt for a pair of thongs or slides for your feet.
After your base coat, RELAX. Avoid sweating, getting splashed, or wet, and refrain from washing your hands while the tan is developing. The base tan can be rinsed 6 hours after your spray, depending on your skin tone; some may choose to sleep in this tan, which we can discuss at your appointment. Rinse for two minutes in lukewarm water (not too hot) until the water runs clear, then return to wearing loose, comfy clothing.
On competition day, as you wake up, you'll notice how your skin has gotten darker, and you'll feel more 'show ready' thanks to your thorough skin prep for competition tanning. For your second coat, apply the same principles as your base tan—your skin must be completely product free! Remember to bring a robe or dark, loose-fitting clothing to the venue to protect your top coat tan after the spray.
The top coat, which is a much darker tan with a higher bronzer content, will not be rinsed off until after your competition. Glaze will be available to apply an hour after your top coat is put on.
Please ensure you arrive on time for your appointment, as we will be following a tight schedule on this important day. After your top coat is applied, I will be at the venue to assist with any necessary touch-ups before you step on stage.
Best of luck, and I'll see you soon. x
