The condition of your skin plays an important factor in your competition tan and preparation is a big part of the end result. For a smooth, even tan you need to be focusing on skin prep as an essential part of your competition preparation.
Begin exfoliating 4 days out from your base tan appointment to remove any dead skin cells by using an exfoliating glove and cloth. Don't forget to get assistance for your back or any hard-to-reach places.
Moisturise your skin thoroughly after each exfoliation and every day in the lead up to nourish the skin and keep it hydrated.
Waxing should be done 48 hours prior to your base coat. Shaving should be done the day before. Apply a clear nail varnish to your fingernails and toenails to prevent the tan from staining the nails.
Shower and do one final, light exfoliation before your base tan appointment and rinse thoroughly. Ensure your skin is COMPLETELY PRODUCT FREE! DO NOT moisturise, use deodorant, perfume or ANY products on your skin before your base tan, as these all act as a barrier and can react with the outcome of your tan. PLEASE NOTE: DEODORANT WILL TURN YOUR ARMPITS GREEN, so please ensure you aren't wearing any! Remove all jewelry prior to your tan.
FEMALES- you will be required to tan nude to avoid any tan lines. MALES- you will need to wear a sock for coverage - or dependent on your competition category, you can wear briefs or boxers.
Wear long, loose, dark and lightweight clothing to your appointment and a pair of thongs or slides for your feet.
RELAX after your base coat. Avoid sweating, getting splashed or wet, and washing your hands while the tan is developing. The base tan can be rinsed 4-6 hrs after your spray, depending on your skin tone. Some may choose to sleep in this tan, we can discuss this at your appointment. Rinse for two minutes in luke warm water (not too hot) until water runs clear, then return back into loose, comfy clothing.
When you wake up on the day of the comp, you'll notice your skin has gotten darker and you'll be feeling more 'show ready'. For your second coat, the same principals apply as your base tan - your skin needs to be completely product free! Take a robe or dark, loose and light fitting clothing to the venue to protect your top coat tan after your spray.
The top coat is a much darker tan and contains a lot more bronzer. This will not be rinsed off until after your competition. Two coats will be applied at the venue, some may need a third, depending on your category.
Please ensure you arrive on time for your appointment as we will be running a pretty tight schedule on the day. After your top coat is applied, I will be on hand at the venue to assist with any touch ups required before you hit the stage.
Best of luck, and I'll see you soon. x
